5 Tips to Help Guys Start Dating Again

Dating can be easy.  Dating well, however, can take practice and a bit of confidence.  Whether you’re going through a recent breakup, a divorce, or are widowed, the below tips to help guys start dating again can help you get back in the game.

While these tips can help you start dating again, we definitely recommend taking the time you need before starting back up in the dating world

Whether you’re going through a difficult breakup or are recently widowed, only you will truly know when you are really ready to get back on the dating scene.  However, once you’re ready, we’re positive that these tips will help any guy start dating again.

Go Outside Your Comfort Zone

It’s all too easy to stay within your comfort zone, particularly when it comes to the dating world.  But, to help yourself in the dating world, you need to get out of your comfort zone.

This includes not only trying new experiences, restaurants, and establishments, but also going on dates that you may have once avoided or deemed incompatible.

Going outside of your comfort zone is one of the best ways to start dating again as a guy.  Not only will you discover new experiences and meet new people, but you’ll also allow yourself to explore new situations which can help to broaden your horizons.

Set Realistic Goals

While, typically, the endgame of dating is marriage or a long-term, committed relationship, no-one says that it must be.  Allow yourself to simply enjoy a date-night or a romantic evening without the added pressure of a commitment.

While we’re not saying you should be afraid to commit, it’s okay to allow yourself some breathing room to simply go out with someone without any added pressure.

In addition to not having or feeling added pressure, be sure to set realistic goals for yourself.  What do you want from the date?  What are you looking to gain?  How can a simple date help you?  We’re not saying to lead other people on nor are we saying to simply fool around but set your own goals and work on bettering yourself.

Work on Yourself

After a particularly difficult breakup, it can be hard to take the time needed to work on yourself.  However, one of the best ways to help yourself start dating again is to ensure that you take care of yourself.

This includes your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual self.  Not only should you be hitting the gym and working on your body, but you should also take the time to connect emotionally and mentally to ensure you’re in a better state of mind.

Build Up Your Wardrobe

One of the biggest difficulties in dating again as a guy is the confidence blow that so many guys feel after a breakup.  One of the best ways to counteract this blow to your confidence is to build up your wardrobe.  Clothes help to make the man and a new wardrobe can help to boost your overall confidence and appearance.

Ask Friends for Help

There’s nothing wrong with asking others for help.  When it comes to dating again, as a guy, you may feel the need to go it alone.  However, having friends help you set-up a date or just give you advice can go a long way.  These friends will give you honest, non-biased advice and will be looking out for your best interest.

Turning to friends in a time of need is a natural response.  And, if you have good friends, they will want to be there for you during your time of need.  If you have a good group of friends, be sure to turn to them when you start dating again.  Not only will they be able to help you find a good date, but they’ll also pump you up for your upcoming date.

Keep it Natural

Dates can be nerve-wracking, but they don’t have to be.  Keep it natural and casual when it comes to dating and you’ll enjoy yourself much, much more.  Although you may feel like you have something to prove, you should keep your dating life laid back, casual, and easy.  While we’re not saying you don’t need to try, we are saying to keep it natural and easy to help yourself ease back into the field.

Speak to a Therapist

To help yourself start dating again, help yourself get back to a good mental state.  You don’t want to start dating when you’re not ready, which may only hinder your own progress.  As-such, take some time before you begin dating again to work on your own mental health.  This may include speaking to a therapist and having them help you get to a proper state of mind.
