How to Fold Basketball Shorts

We’ve previously discussed the importance of bringing a basketball backpack or duffle bag to your game or practice. Brining a basketball bag or duffle bag with you to practice and games will help to ensure that you don’t forget anything necessary for the event and will help you to keep all your basketball supplies neat and organized.

And speaking of neat and organized, you will also want to ensure that your basketball uniform, both the jersey and the shirt, are neatly organized and folded.  However, we’ve heard from many basketball players that they are unsure of the optimal way to fold a pair of basketball shorts.

That is why, below, we are going to walk you, step-by-step, on how to fold basketball shorts.

Why Fold Basketball Shorts?

Unfortunately, all too often, players will simply wash their basketball jerseys and shorts and toss them back into the closet or their backpack or duffle bag.  While this isn’t inherently wrong, it is not an ideal solution for long-term use and will result in a fading of the jersey colors.

In addition, by simply throwing your jersey and shorts into your bag, you are risking wrinkling your clothes and the uniform.  While you may not care or may believe it to be not a big deal, it is, actually, quite unprofessional and immature to show up to either practice or a game with a wrinkled jersey.

To save yourself the embarrassment and to help yourself appear more professional and put-together, we are going to guide you on how to fold your basketball shorts.

Different Types of Basketball Shorts

Within the game of basketball, there are a number of different types of shorts available.  These shorts range in comfortability, style, appearance, and fit.  However, they all get the job done and are able to keep up with you and your movement during the game.

Below, we are going to list some of our own personal favorites and some of the best basketball shorts to buy in 2021-2022.

Nike Dri-FIT the Nike Dri-FIT is the pinnacle of athletic shorts technology.  If you’re serious about the game and your own games performance, then the Nike Dri-FIT shorts are a must have in your wardrobe.  The Nike Dri-FIT’s are not only extremely comfortable but they provide a level of breathability that no other short does.  We highly recommend these shorts and would encourage stocking up on them for all your basketball needs.

Adidas Boys Athletic Shorts if you want a simple basketball short that still shows off your style and fashion, then the Adidas Boys Athletic Shorts should be your go to.  These shorts are comfortable and provide breathability, though perhaps not as great as the Nike Dri-FIT’s.  But, if you are looking for a more affordable solution and still want something fashionable, then this is a great choice.

Liberty ImportsLiberty Imports comes as a pair of five for one simple, low price.  These shorts are a bit longer in length, coming down below your knees.  They are also colorful and stylish, making them great for wearing day-in and day-out and for mixing up with your wardrobe.

Under Armour Men’s Tech Graphic Shorts Under Armour also makes a great basketball short.  We’ve opted for this one as we liked the length, not too long past the knee, but not too short above it.  The length stands at an upper-knee length and fits nicely and comfortably.  These shorts also have fast drying technology, so any sweat or water spilled cleans up quickly and easily.

Step-by-Step Folding Basketball Shorts

As basketball shorts come in many different materials, they can often be flimsy, bulky, and difficult to handle.  Also, depending on which pair you have, they can be difficult to place and due to their length may be more difficult to fold.

With all that said, generally, folding basketball shorts is pretty straightforward.

  • If your basketball shorts have an elastic waistband or are bunched up by a drawstring, simply undo the sting and attempt to flatten it out as much as possible.
  • Tie the drawstring in a loose knot so that it is not lost into the waistband.
  • Line up your shorts against one leg and tuck into the crotch area.
  • Taking the bottom of the legs, simply fold them over, just below where the waistband is.
  • Fold once more, this time looking to line the bottom end up with the waistband.
