Do All NBA Players Cheat?

The NBA is one of the most prestigious basketball leagues in the world. Made up of some of the best basketball players, players in the NBA amass millions of dollars per year and are often traveling during the season to different cities across the United States and Canada.

And while some NBA players’ wives, girlfriends, and fiancé’s do opt to travel with the team, a significant number opt not to. And although we do not condone, and will never excuse, cheating, a significant number of NBA players do cheat on their significant other.

Below, we are going to look at and discuss just whether or not do all NBA players cheat on their significant other. We will look at some of the reasons why NBA players do cheat and discuss just what can be done to limit those transgressions.

Why do Some People Cheat on Their Significant Other?

Cheating, unlike so many other relationship violations and transgressions, is one of the ultimate relationship destroyers. An act that is nearly universally seen as unforgivable, nearly 20% of all men surveyed admitted to cheating on their significant other.

But just why do so many men cheat?

Unfortunately, the answer is rarely simple.

Although cheating mainly involves a betrayal in intimacy, it is rarely due to the intimacy alone. Rather, many of the men surveyed admitted to developing a form of emotional attachment to their cheating partner.

In addition, a majority of those surveyed admitted that they felt compelled to cheat on their significant other due to suffering from neglect or lack of love in their primary relationship.

And lastly, a significant number of those surveyed simply stated that they opted to cheat on their significant other due to the opportunity presenting itself.

What is Considered Cheating?

Although the most frequent, and obvious, form of cheating is done from an intimate perspective, there are many different forms of cheating. From a baseline perspective, cheating, or infidelity, is the act of being unfaithful to one’s spouse or partner, either in an intimate or romantic manner.

And while cheating via an act of intimacy is often the most discussed, there are other forms of cheating which should be considered.

Amongst those, there is emotional cheating, which is a type of cheating in which an emotional attachment between a person and someone who isn’t their spouse or partner is made.

In addition, there is cyber cheating. A newer form of cheating, cyber cheating is the act of flirting, making intimate comments, and developing an emotional bond with another individual online.

Why do NBA Players Cheat?

As stated above, we do not and will never condone cheating in any form. However, many NBA players, both past and present, have been known to cheat on their significant other. Below are a few reasons why some NBA players have cheated on their partners.

• Frequent Travel During the Season – one of the main reasons why so many NBA players cheat on their partner is due to their being away from their home for prolonged periods of time during the regular season. With NBA players expected to travel for 41 of the 82-game season, they are frequently away from their homes and will be camped up in hotel rooms.

• They Live Celebrity Style Lifestyles –NBA players are often some of the most popular and sought after athletes in the world. With so many people looking up to and clamoring for their attention, they may fall into the wrong group and end up cheating on their significant other.

• Many People Seek Attention From NBA Players – in addition, an ever growing number of NBA players cheat on their significant other due to the constant attention fans and individuals seek from them. Whether due to their wealth, fame, or status, individuals from all walks of life will seek NBA players out in the hopes of attaining some of those status symbols.

• Many NBA Players Are Not Ready to Be in a Committed Relationship – while a controversial take, simply put, many NBA players are not ready to be in a committed relationship. With the stresses of the job, the frequent travel, and the influx of wealth, many NBA players are unaccustomed to the newfound wealth and fame and will end up making an egregious mistake against their partner.

Do All NBA Players Cheat?

While cheating is prevalent in the NBA, it is unfair to assume that every NBA player cheats on their significant other. And while there are no concrete numbers and facts, many NBA players are able to remain faithful and committed to their significant other, regardless of the stressors of an NBA lifestyle.

However, there is a significant number of NBA players who do end up cheating on their significant other. Some famous examples include Kobe Bryant and, in more recent years, Tristan Thompson.

How Can Cheating be Stopped Amongst NBA Players?

While cheating is, of course, a personal decision, it is one that has ripple affects throughout one’s personal life. And while it can be difficult to control the actions of another, there are some steps that can be taken to limit the amount of cheating which is so prevalent through the league.

For starters, educating players on the risks, both financially and emotionally, which comes from cheating can be helpful to limit the number of players who cheat on their significant other.

Similarly, the NBA can begin to develop scheduling which allows for fewer travel amongst league teams, allowing for players to return home to the comfort of their significant other.

And lastly, more NBA teams can begin to include a players significant other in the teams travel plans. Allowing for a players significant other to travel with the team would not only limit the incidence of cheating but would also provide emotional support for the individual players.
